How do I install an EA (Expert Advisor) on MT4/MT5 account?

MT4/MT5 (Windows)

To install an Expert Advisor for automated or algorithmic trading, follow these steps:

  1. Open the MT4/MT5 platform
  2. Select ‘File’ from the main menu
  3. Click on ‘Open Data Folder’ to bring up a new folder panel
  4. Select the ‘MQL4’/'MQL5' folder, followed by the ‘Experts’ file
  5. Drag and drop your EA file(s) into this folder
  6. Restart MT4/MT5 for your changes to take effect

Please consult the EA/Indicator's provider for installation troubleshooting or any issues associated with the EA.

MT4/MT5 (Mac)

Before installing any Expert Advisors, you will need to ensure you have copied the EA to a folder on your Mac.

  1. Log in to MT4/MT5:

    • Open the Axi MT4/MT5 trading platform.

  2. Access the Data Folder:

    • In the top menu, click on File, then select Open Data Folder. A window will appear on your screen showing the folder structure.

  3. Navigate to the Correct Folder:

    • In the new window, navigate to Users → [Your Mac User Name] → MQL4/MQL5. (You may need to search for the MQL4/MQL5 folder if it's not immediately visible.)

  4. Prepare the EA:

    • Locate your EAs (you may have created a folder on your desktop named "EAs" for demonstration purposes). Select the EA, right-click, and click Copy.

  5. Paste the EA in the 'Experts' Folder:

    • Within the MQL4/MQL5 folder, you will see two subfolders: Experts and Indicators. Open the Experts folder.
    • Right-click and select Paste to add the EA file to the Experts folder.

  6. Close the Window:

    • Once the EA is copied, close the window.

  7. Restart MT4/MT5:

    • Close your MT4/MT5 platform and reopen it. The newly installed EAs should now appear in the Navigator window under Expert Advisors.

MT4 App (Android & iOS)

Unfortunately, Expert Advisors cannot be used on the MetaTrader 4 and MetaTrader 5 app for Android or iOS app.
